Our History

The Alberta Crown Attorneys’ Association (ACAA) is a voluntary association that was founded in 1971 by Crown Prosecutors employed by the Government of Alberta (GOA). For over 50 years, the ACAA has been advocating for better wages and working conditions for Crown Prosecutors.

After decades of unstable working conditions and cyclical under-resourcing of the prosecution service, the ACAA advocated for substantial changes to the relationship between Crown Prosecutors and their employer.

In 2022, the ACAA formally became the bargaining agent for the majority of Crown Prosecutors when the first Memorandum of Settlement between the ACAA and the GOA was ratified. This agreement significantly improved and stabilized the working conditions of Crown Prosecutors. Since that time, the ACAA has continued to represent its members and ensure compliance with the agreement so that Crown Prosecutors are adequately equipped to prosecute fairly, fearlessly and effectively. A subsequent agreement was ratified between the ACAA and the GOA in July 2024.
